Siege of Cherry Hill occurs.
January 31, 1955
(Jan.) After failing an escape attempt from Charlestown State Prison, bank robber Theodore “Teddy” Green and three other inmates hold five guards hostage and demand that a car be provided to them which they can use to leave the prison. Authorities refuse and a tense standoff ensues that only ends when Green’s 17-year-old daughter persuades the inmates to give up. Green is subsequently transferred to Alcatraz, paroled in 1967, and later becomes a car salesman for Coveny Ford in West Roxbury.
